The area is rich in wildlife. Whilst garden birds play amongst the wild cotton grass Sea Eagles soar past often mobbed by Hooded Crows. There are also Golden Eagles. Red Deer roam what was one a deer park, the majestic stance of a curious stag makes for an ideal photo opportunity. Guided tours are available to go bird and also Otter spotting.
For those with a love of fishing, there is no end to the lochs, sea lochs, rivers and sea angling opportunities. However, if an adventurous sea safari is more your style then there are plenty of whales, dolphins, and Baskin sharks to be spotted from shore-based vantage points or special boat trips.
Wildflowers carpet the islands during the summer months, whilst water lilies provide camouflage for Herons fishing for supper. Sea pinks, purple heather, yellow iris, orchids and a swathe of buttercups dress the moorland in varying colours throughout the year. Here is a photographers paradise, technicolour sunsets, and sunrises leave you breathless whilst the lucky few are witness to the Northern Lights nearer the approach of winter.
